Right... I guess we did say we'd talk about it later.
... I've devoted most of my life to the study of blastia, a sort of magic technology. We relied on them for everything. Heating, cooking, providing clean water to cities, and generating barriers to keep monsters out.
But, despite how much we relied on them... it turned out that the use of blastia had devastating effects on the world. [she stares down into her teacup, distant...]
Putting it that way sounds kind of weird... but in a way, yeah. We've already come up with some formulas to borrow their power in order to perform magic... and I've got an idea of how we might be able to develop new technology using this power.
I managed on my own for a long while, but it's hard to deny how much easier it is with a healer watching out for me, or a swordsman keeping monsters off my back.

But I've made some of the first working spirit magic formulas, so I guess I've got a head start as a leading researcher in the field.
